ERBA Webinar 1
COVID-19: Biology, Clinics, and Lab Diagnostics
Prof. Giusepppe Lippi, MD
Full Professor of Clinical Biochemistry & Director of Laboratory Service,
University Hospital of Verona, Italy

The etiological diagnosis of COVID-19 is and will remain for the foreseeable future, deeply based on the direct identification of viral RNA by molecular biology techniques. With the help of serological testing, promising information can be garnered from preliminary investigations, showing that the vast majority of COVID-19 patients seem to develop a sustained immune response against the virus. The availability of rapid tests for detecting either viral antigens or anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies is a potentially viable opportunity for purposes of epidemiologic surveillance, though more information is needed on the accuracy and reliability of these portable immunoassays. Through this webinar, Prof. Lippi highlights the various test methodologies for the detection of COVID-19.
