Most RDTs also help distinguish between P. falciparum and non-P. falciparum infections which is an important factor for treatment to be provided to the patient. Blood samples for the test are typically obtained via finger-prick, and results are available within 15–30 minutes.

    • One of the most significant advantages of RDTs is their rapid turnaround time. Unlike conventional microscopy or PCR techniques, which may take hours or even days to produce results, RDTs provide a diagnosis within 15 to 30 minutes.
